i'm a fool for whipping up diy spa concotions in my kitchen, especially when they involve yummy smelling fruits which are loaded with things that make my skin sparkle. grapefruit is one of my favorites to use. it's smell is energy boosting, and it's packed with antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins A and C. the cherry on top is that its acids provide gentle exfoliation for sloughing off dull dead skin cells. for these reasons i came up with this mask, which is my weekly go-to when i feel like pampering this face.
to make, i whisk the freshly squeezed juice of 1/4-1/2 a grapefruit with one egg white. it will make way too much for one pretty face, but whatever. i like to apply it in a thin layer using a small paint brush (try it, it feels totally awesome), but you could also dunk a cotton ball in the mask and apply it that way. if i have the time, i like to apply a layer once every five minutes or so until i'm satisfied, and i gently remove it with a super warm wash cloth to open my pores for the final step--moisturizing.
wondering what to do with the egg yolk and leftover grapefruit? i reserve my egg yolk to use in the shower as a conditioning mask, as it contains proteins and vitamins to strengthen and moisturize hair. as for the grapefruit, i preheat my oven to 350 and pop it in for about thirty minutes. it makes a delicious snack, especially when drizzled with agave nectar.
thanks for hanging out, and make sure to carve some time to try this one for yourself.
